Food and Flea Markets – Part I: Jerusalem

The multi culture mix of Israeli population creates an unusual richness of food markets, flea markets and other ethnic markets. We can find and enjoy them in all major cities and suburbs. We shall start a digital painting tour of Jerusalem  major markets. We shall later also summarize tours of Tel Aviv – Yaffo markets as well as Beer Sheba, Haifa, Acre and other cities.

The biggest ethnic market of Jerusalem is the colorful Arab market in the old city. The shops are located in narrow alleys paved with large Roman and Crusaders stones. The colors, odors and noise inspire thousands of shoppers, tourists and religious guys who wander between the churches, mosques and synagogues.

The second large market in Jerusalem is the ancient impressive “Mahane Yehuda ” market. In  addition to being a large multi cultural food market, it is also a major entertainment site in the older sections of the western part of the city.

While visiting both markets I pulled my smartphone of my pocket and marked my impressions by drawing what I saw. I hope that I have been able to convey to you at least some of my deep enthusiasm during the markets tours.
